Healthcare event in DUC 234 at 6pm today! A Local Checkup

Come hear four panelists from a variety of professional backgrounds discuss the effects of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare!) and the current state of healthcare in St. Louis at 6pm today, Wednesday, March 7th, in DUC 234.

Many say that the sun has indeed set on St. Louis, particularly when it comes to health outcomes.

Here are some St. Louis healthcare facts, particularly relevant to our racially polarized city, to whet your appetite:

  • Infant Mortality in St. Louis City is 2.8 times higher for African-American infants than White infants
  • Seen those abortion=black genocide ad campaigns? Actually, Teen Abortions for African-American mothers ages 10~17 are 87% of those of White mothers. Makes you think.
  • African-American AIDS mortality in the State of Missouri is almost 10 times that of Whites
  • 48.6% of all Primary Care Physicians in the city of St. Louis are in the zip code area 63110, where the Barnes Jewish hospital, among many others, are located. The North City areas of 63101, 63102, 63120, 63147 have a grand total of zero.
  • A full 54.4% of all residents of zone 63106 are eligible for Medicaid, whereas a paltry 6.7% are eligible in 63109, a wealthier South City area. Even more telling, 40% of St. Louis blacks are medicaid-eligible, compared to 8.9% of whites.
