A Primer on the Scottish Referendum

On September 18th, Scots will go to the polls to vote on independence from Britain, the first time the question has been brought to a vote since they became part of the United Kingdom in 1707. The referendum seems to have snuck up on British politicians, who have mounted a last-ditch campaign to plead with Scottish voters to vote no.
